Sate Wine Bar in HBC, Seoul – A Hidden Spot
for Wine Lovers

Haebangchon(HBC) is one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Seoul.
It is located near Itaewon and Namsan, and many locals visit this area for small restaurants, wine bars, and cafes.

Instead of going all the way up to Shinheung Market,
I visited a wine bar that many local wine lovers know.
The place is called Sate.

If you like wine and Asian fusion food, this place is worth visiting.

1) Where is Sate Wine Bar?

사테 – Google 지도

📍 Address: 25 Sinheung-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Sate is located at the entrance of Haebangchon, not far from Itaewon.
Nearby Itaewon restaurants you may know:
Bonny’s Pizza Pub , Jamsoogyojip restaurant ,Shinheung Market

When you walk along Sinheung-ro street,
look for a wooden door with warm yellow lights.
That is the entrance of Sate.

2) How to Get There

✔️Subway:
Noksapyeong Station (Line 6)|
From the station:
1) Exit Exit 3
2) cross the street to PETRA Restaurant
3) Take a taxi for about 5 minutes,
or walk 15–18 minutes uphill
(HBC is on a hill)

✔️Bus:
You can also take a local bus from
Noksapyeong area.
Common buses going to Haebangchon:
1) Bus 402, 405 (Only Card)
or Village bus Yongsan 02 (Only Card)
2) Get off near Shinheung Market
and walk a few minutes.

3) Sate Wine Bar Reservation Tips (Also other Korea restaurants)

I made a reservation before visiting.
After 7 PM, most walk-in guests were turned away.
So I strongly recommend making a reservation.
In Korea, reservations are usually made with an app called CatchTable

  • Tip for foreign visitors : If you don’t have a Korean phone number for the app,
you can ask your hotel concierge to assist with the booking or try messaging
Sate Wine Bar via their official Instagram account.

2. Menu at Sate Wine bar – Asian Fusion

English Menu of Sate Wine Bar HBC including wine list
Sate Wine Bar english menu

The menu is not very large, but it is unique and interesting.
Instead of typical Korean bar food, Sate serves Asian fusion dishes.
The name “Sate” comes from Southeast Asian satay,
a grilled skewer dish popular in Indonesia and Malaysia.

However, the menu is not limited to skewers.
You will find dishes with Asian flavors designed for wine pairing.
This concept is one reason why wine lovers like this place.

If you want to bring your own wine, Sate also allows corkage.

Wine List & Corkage Policy
* Typical price range:
– Entry bottles: around 70,000–80,000 KRW
– Premium bottles: over 1,000,000 KRW

Sommelier’s wine recommendation service

The wine list here is huge.
Honestly, it feels like reading a small book.
This may be one of the wine bars with the largest wine selections in Haebangchon.

If you plan to drink several bottles, bringing one or two bottles can be a good idea.

3) What We EAT & Drank

✔️Sate’s Best menu: Taiwanese fried chicken (16,000won)
Take a piece of that golden Taiwanese fried chicken and give it
a good dunk in the mayo. It’s a game-changer!

✔️Ricotta cheese with bread (19,000won)
The pairing of white wine, ricotta cheese, and refreshing apples is absolutely divine

✔️Grilled Lamb (46,000 won)
No gamey aftertaste at all! This lamb dish is a must-try with their house red wine

✔️Wok stir fry chaud (24,000 won)
The stir-fried Manila clams were the star of the show—
everyone at the table couldn’t stop raving about them

The dishes were so delicious that the wine went down way too easily!
The staff was also very helpful in recommending wine pairings.
Here’s a look at what we drank

  • Burgundy Pinot Noir recommended by the chef
  • A Chardonnay we brought for corkage
  • A natural wine, which is currently very popular in Seoul

3. Sate Wine bar Atmosphere

The atmosphere feels like a small European wine bar.
Warm lighting, wooden interior, and many wine glasses on the table create a cozy mood.

When we opened several bottles, the table became full of wine glasses.
It felt like a small private wine party.
If you enjoy slow dinners with wine and conversation, this place is perfect.

4. Price & Overall Experience

That night we ordered:

  • Many dishes
  • 2 bottles from the restaurant
  • 2 corkage bottles

The total bill was around 400,000 KRW.
Actually Sate Wine Bar is not a cheap place,
but the wine selection and food quality are very good.

5. Final Thoughts – Is Sate Wine Bar Worth Visiting?

Why Sate is a Must-Visit for Travelers:

  • A Wine Lover’s Paradise:
Boasting one of the most extensive wine cellars in the Haebangchon
    and Itaewon areas.
